Talk About Your Family
You can build rapport with your audience by telling some great, funny stories about your family. This can build a connection with your audience, which you will learn how to do in my book on public speaking.

Most audience members will enjoy listening to you talk about your spouse or kids in a positive light. Family evokes feelings of joy and happiness in most people.

Of course, you do run the risk that a few people in the audience may not like their spouse after a big argument or a divorce, or their kids if they have been dealing with rebellion or rejection. But most people do like to hear positive family stories, even when their family might not be so positive at the time.

Generally the benefits of talking about your family far outweigh the risks.

Specific Objectives
It is very important that you find out exactly what you are expected to accomplish during your presentation before you even start your pre-program research. If you don't get this information, you are open to complaints that you did not achieve the goals of the meeting organizers. It is best to have the exact requirements and expectations spelled out in writing. This can be handled with a question on your pre-program questionnaire.

You will learn more about  the "proper prior preparation"  and pre-program research in my book on public speaking.

Just because this is a short article doesn't mean you should ignore it's BIG message. Ignore this tip from my book on public speaking and it could mean big trouble.
